Retooling

Hey everyone,

I've been setup for years with a rack effects processor (ART SGX 2000 Express) and I want to retool in an attempt to start matching some of the new sounds I'm hearing played now - just can't seem to nail with my ART.

Just curious as to what setups are being used by everyone here, and why you like it> I run a basic system:
Jackson Concept 6-string guitar/Ibazez 6-string (both Floyd Rose)
Through the ART SGX processor with a MIDI control pedal into a Fender Princeton Chorus Amp (or my PC for studio work).

I've been looking for a new (all-effects-known-to-man-in-one-unit) effects setup, and while I am inclined to stick with a rack processor (just out of familiarity), I have been hearing some great sounds in some pedalboards I've been trying.

Thinking about going BOSS again - Appreciate any help from all my guitar buds out there!

i know it may sound odd but i wud recomend trying the zoom series although cheap and taky looking they sound great in my oppinion

I REALLY need to get some feedback on this guys!

I am planning to set my existing setup on fire by the end of this month - I'm going to very unhappy if I haven't figured out what to replace it with before that :D

If you want to stay rack:

I am using the Boss VF-1.
Etreemly flexible...very happy with my stack type distortion sounds and even the mild crunchy type stuff...

programming and setup is dead easy

My inclination has been BOSS (just about anything).
The more I test drive them - the better they fit!
I think I'm going to stay with a rack setup.

Hi, Just Joined. I have a Roland GP 100 - Love it. It's the best. i'm not sure if they're available though.;)

Paul reed smith into mesa boogie dual rectifier. (I actually get the sound engineer to dial in effects from FOH) sounds mad, but a little work with the guy and we nailed the changes within a rehearsal or two.

When I was an effects nut 10 or so years ago I used a digitech rack, It had tubes and stuff like the ART sgx. Iwent back to basic setups and guitars in non flourescent colours a few years ago.

OK - Well, here was the decision:
I just brought this home this morning:

Boss GX-700 Guitar Effects Processor
B.K. Butler Tube Works Real Tube II RT-922
B.K. Butler Tube Works MosValve MV-962
Roland FC-200 MIDI Foot Controller
2 12" Fender Speaker Boxes.

So - If you don't hear from me for the next week or 2 - you kow what I'm doing!

Sounds like a nice little setup.

b4 I bought the VF-1 I looked at the GX-700.
the only resason I went the VF-1 was the amp modleing was a bit more flexible..
I only play in a duo so I DI (no amps on stage for me)
that was more important to me

Hi I to have tryed different set ups
but always came back to the digitech 2101 it's older but I like it.
a Inkel 420 300watt stereo head
and I ran this through my mackie 1402 and used the 2101 as fx loop
I run (2) 412 cabs and still run DI on stage as needed
but this unit seems to work great even if you run DI with no amp on stage
as long as the monitor system on stage can give you what you need
but on different occasion I found single coil guitar pick ups seemed a bit noisy
I also have used this in the studio for the past 7 or so years and this set up really works well !!
not that expensive and easy to maintain
