How many of us are musicians who use midi files as a quick and easy way to get the score for new tunes, and who amongst us is downloading midi to actually listen to it?
I found this site while searching for tab, so I guess I would have to agree with the former.
Otherwise it's part looking for scores for music that I haven't found sheet music for, and part lazy sequencing.

I can't remember what got me interested in midis, but i started collecting them last year, and i actually listen to them. My boyfriend converted them and burned them onto cds for me so i could listen to them away from the pc too... (hope that doesn't sound too pathetic...? :P)
i guess i just love midis... i hope they don't die out

i love midi's, the first lot of songs i heard were mod files then i moved to midi's & understood how the whole concept worked

I teach music and use MIDI files for karaoke in the classroom..... It gets the kids to stand up in front of their peers and sing solo on a Mic..... MIDI files allow me to change the key to best suit the range of the singer so that every kid can be successful.
I also do all of my composing in MIDI format... it allows me to see notation/hear full score quickly and easily. I don't often perform pop stuff so the MIDIs I get here are for school :)
I'm still learning the art of sequencing. And I've gained a lot of info and advice by being a member of Midibuddy. Plus my midi collection has soared! :)

I know very little about sequencing, but I'm trying to learn more. I'm not so much a musician, I use them for ringtones on cellphones. I have a ton of midi's though, and I run a small website where you can get midi ringers for your phone.

I'm a long time sequencer and aspiring composer. MIDIs are fun for study or entertainment, and sequencing is absolutely essential (to me) for composing.

I agree with Zel, I remember running backwards and forwards to a little tape deck trying to record guitar riffs and drum beats on an accoustic, then went to recording onto the computer, but it's just as quick and easy to whip up a quick midi of the idea in my head, then record it later

That's true. Also, I find the iterative process of working out a sequence to be inherently more productive (to me) than plinking out things on a keyboard and trying to remember them. And when you're done fooling around, you've got all your work already saved in a MIDI file. :)

Hi folks, I am not a musician, but when I first downloaded a midi file and heard it through my sound card, it wasn't great, then I got the Roland virtual sound canvas and I thought they were pretty good, but now I bought a Yamaha Tone Generator 1000 and hey presto Its the real thing.
