Boost the volume of a MIDI file?
You can edit a Midis attributes (like volume and instrument patches), using any number of programs like Cakewalk/Sonar, Cubase, etc...

If it's boost the volume of a midi file, I'd use Cakewalk. It's a great program

just use winamp and get wow thing i dont no how good it is but i like it :)

Installing a new soundcard could help. Sometimes the older cards produce lower volumes.

You should first of all look for the Volume Control window for your sound device and check the volume is at max. This window is usually accessible from Control Panel, Sounds and Multimedia and also from a speaker icon at the bottom left of your desktop taskbar.

See how loud your sound output is by using an audio CD played via Microsofts CD Player. Set it to max volume... Turn the volume control on your speakers to max... thats as much volume as you're gonna get no matter what you do (unless you change your hardware, of course).

Now try playing a MIDI using whatever software you have (e.g. vanBasco Karoke player). If the volume is significantly quieter, try a few more MIDI files. If some are OK and some quiet, the problem is in the MIDI file.

Use Cakewalk or another sequencer program to edit the MIDI file which is quiet. Set the overall volume per channel to 127 or whatever is pleasing to you (some channels should be louder than others... getting a good balance is a skill). You can also edit the events per track. Adding 'Expression' events and 'Velocity' parameters are sometimes interpretted by the soundcard drivers and also by keyboards (if you're using them), as a measure of volume.

Some (maybe all) keyboards also have their own overall master volume setting as an internal setting and also as a manual knob or dial.

Well, thats about as much I know on this subject... simple innit?
