What's the best program to use to compose drum beats, or even snare pieces?

For that stuff I use Sibelius 2. Its a great program if you know how to read music and such. It also lets you compose countless other types of music such as symphonic band or orchestral music.

encore is a great music writing software too, though a bit expensive

id stick with FruityLoops... its the simplest and easyest one around... but cakewalk is awesome..

perhaps you would also be interested in Re-Birth or Reazon, maybe even orian.. Sonar.. possibilities are endless... check out NI, they have to official Linkin Park drumming program --> Native Instruments (http://nativeinstruments.com)
