Does anyone know how to convert midi files downloaded on a PC over to an Apple Mac using cubase?

Hope you can help.

The best way is to export your midi file as a "STANDARD MIDI FILE FORMAT ( 1 or 0 )" and import it on your mac sequencer. That's the only truly "universal" Midi format.

MIDI 1 is multitrack, MIDI 0 is Everything in a single track. Of course, MIDI 1 is the best option.

I thought MIDI files were universal?

Ive never seen different versions of files for PC and mac. God, even my mobile phone uses MIDI files as ringtones :D

As far as I know, midifiles are universal. I've programmed files on my pc, and emailed to a friend who has a mac, no problem

GusTrax is right - MIDI 1 is much more user-friendly than MIDI 0.

..is it me, or can logic only export one type of midi file, so you don't have the choice between type 0 or 1?

Perhaps the question is how to read PC files on a Mac...

If you've downloaded a *.mid to a PC, then all you need is a Mac that can read a DOS formatted disk, which most recent Macs are capable of...

Is the Mac networked?

Logic can save in both formats midi o & 1. To export from logic you must select a object to export. If you select only one object then that is format 0. If you select several objects then that is format 1
To create a multiple midi ch file merge the objects together and set the resulting track to an allchannel and then export

Yes, Merlin is right, standard midifiles are platform independant. Doesn't matter wether you save as format 0 or format 1, that's up to you (but bear in mind that a lot of hardware sequencers are not capable of playing format 1 files! )

It's only a matter of reading the disk, but a mac is capable of reading DOS formatted disks. If it doesn't work with a disk, try to e-mail the file(s) to the mac (or network them, if possible).

Kind regards,
