anyone here know of a good application for creating midi files on a Macintosh? I know Windows has Noteworthy Composer, but I was wondering. Thanks.. whocares@hotmail.com

Reason allows you to export midi files, but is a lot more than a midi composing tool. http://www.propellerheads.se/replacehardware/

Finale (codamusic.com) is great, if you know how to read and write music. It's designed as a Notation, publication program, but it's got a great export to midi feature. The sounds built in aren't that great, but if you combine it with some good sound fonts and tweak the midi with quicktime or pro-tools (digidesign.com), it comes out sounding REALLY good.

I use Intuem and Metro 6 under OS X.
You have more choices under OS 9, but I switched to OS X and I'm not unhappy with the change (Band in the Box is the only MIDI software I use frequently that doesn't run well under OS X).

Intuem and Metro are complementary products insofar as they both have some neat features the other doesn't (and they both are missing some important things that the other provides).

Generally, I use Metro for creation and Intuem for playback.
Recent versions of Intuem have added a neat feature that
lets you adjust the tempo of your MIDI playback very precisely. This is cool for those times when you're sequencing some song you've got a recording of and you want to make the MIDI timing match the original recording during sequencing.
