What do you see as the advantages of one over the other. It seems the CD's have more authentic sound, but you can't manipulate things like key and tempo etc. What do most of you use and why?

umm.. what do you mean? CD's are recorded digital audio. MIDI's are 'instructions'

i don't know about that...i think midis are good for backgrounds, but Cds are definitely more authentic listening material? W/ midis you can actually sing to it, wheras songs you just sort of listen to...or dance to.

A CD is a final product and you cannot manipulate anything but EQ or chop it up in an editing program and create loops ETC. I mixer won't do much with a stereo track. Midi files, as Tav says, are instructions sent to another device then processed to make the sounds that come from your module\soundcard.
Don't we all wish that you could break down a CD that easy and make it a midi file or a baking track!!
