Cakewalk? Or something better? Do any of you still use the Atari? Can you still get service and parts? What do most of you use for PC? And why? Thanks!

I like Cubase. It's more then just MIDI though. It's more for digital audio.

I personally prefer the user interface of Cubase, I find it a lot easier to use. However there are some things when editing MIDIs that are difficult to do, especially editing the controllers that handle volume fades, pan sweeps, etc.
Cakewalk is better for this and also seems more compatible with Windows XP so my program of choice is Cakewalk Sonar. It might be a bit too bloated for your needs though.

Cubase is excellent but may be a bit heavy going. I find Cakewalk has a much better UI. You won't go far wrong with Cakewalk

I like Cubase, but it's not for the faint of heart. Cakewalk is good, but I have some personal issues with it. I've been fooling around with Fruity Loops lately ... limited, but fun.
As for notation software, I just got Igor Engraver, but I haven't checked it out yet.

You must all be PC users.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned MOTU Digital Performer, a mac only program- far superior to Cubase and Cakewalk. (I've used the other ones on a PC at another studio)

Well, I guess, judging from everything I have been told and read here, that I will stay with Cakewalk. I had been considering Cubase, but professionals I have spoken to have told me that while it is good for converting wav's, Cakewalk is better for midi work. Thanks All!
Cubase and cubasis are good.
Cakewalk is useful for adding lyrics.

If you only want to sequence midi then use Cakewalk, look around for Cakewalk 3 I've been useing it for over 10 years and still do, it is very stable, user friendly and reliable. I use it everynight live. Sonar is Great for recording audio + midi and reliablity. Try before you buy .
Hope it Helps

Hi If you want an easy to use software that dosent blow your mind before you even start then i recomend Emagic Logic Audio 4.7 great user interface with all the tools at hand much easier than Cubase or cakewalk. You can get a free version from Emagic.com but not as good as the timming clock is not at its best. :flamemad:

For beginners I would recommend MasterTracks Pro. I bought it a couple of years ago and it does everything I need for playback and editing. It's easy to use with a very quick learning curve to get up and running.

Cubase is big chaos! Cakewalk is very simple. Use it or something like that.
