You´re looking for a software or hardware midi synth???
The only synth you've heard of is Wingroove? I haven't heard of that one myself, but I dont get how you've only heard of one synth (???). Even my mum knows what a MiniMoog is :D
To be honest I dont really know what you mean by MIDI synth? Most synths have been MIDI since the mid eighties so I could sit here all night listing them (i wont).

I think you mean virtual synth? there's heaps out there, just type into a search engine. Roland has a good one, so I've been told. Midi is what you connect your synth to the computer with. No midi involved with a virtual synth

I've tried the Roland Canvas, Yamaha XG and Wingroove. In my opinion wingroove provides the most balanced sounds and drums, unless you use and xg or roland gs midi which might sound better in there respective synth....The best thing is to get a sound card that supports soundfonts, then you can load banks with real sampled instruments, which is the best!

Roland XP 30, just a big box of very good sounds.

Vsynths aren't cheap though. I don't suppose anyone knows if there are any shareware versions available. I only have an RS-5, I have to admit it would be nice to have a few more sounds to pick from.

If you use a software-synth, try a Fatar Masterkeyboard! They are relative cheap and the quality is great!

if you buy a hercules sound card, the gamesurround fortissmo 2, there about £50, you get a free yamaha synth, it's really good, and it also supports loading up the instrument sounds directly, as well as digital output and input.

software/ hardware synths?????? if hardware then pcm/analog/physical modelling/fm/............... what are you looking for??
If you're looking for soft Synths:
Arturia Moog Modular,
all NI series,
Novation VBassStation,
or Propellerhead Reason 2.5.
All sound great, especially with few Veffects: Try Predathom series...
