hi i'm not usually one to complain but.... will you people stop complaining about the 5 post rule....
We all had to do it and now are reaping the rewards so if it is such a hassle don't do it and stop winging about it...
Or on the other hand you could join in, make the posts and get to know the rest of us a bit better.....
I mean really.... where else do people get together to pool their resources just to help each other out.
I think it's great.
Now that i have that out of my system let's get back to business.....Party Party Party....

Well, I’m new here and don’t know why the 5 post rule came into effect anyway, so I guess I can’t complain. Although I really am curious to find out why...

maybe so that people don't join just for downloading but to actually post. This is a forum.

I think the reasoning is that if you put up a site with loads of midis on it you never really know how much your site is really being used. I myself used Johns site before it became a midi board but used it annonomously. Now we can all see the traffic on the site.
Also this is not a midi distribution site but a community.
I personally was one of those whingers at the start who moaned about the 5 post rule and slated John about but now I'm a moderator on the site and enjoy it immensley, (NOTE - Must delete that thread!!)
Great to hear there are so many preople enjoying the boards.!!

i think the five post rule is to stop ppl juss comming for the files and not for the community, which this site is.
I just found this board and hopefully it will live up to the hype
Dark Wolf
09-17-2002, 06:54 PM
That is why the Mods are always on a look out for junk post and trash threads. If they find them they usally delete them on sight. but their are times their will be left just for certain reasons.
If you post junk,
then you be a punk!
Dark Wolf
09-17-2002, 07:12 PM
Well that is another way to say it i guess. So basically all you have to do is do not junk post and then you wont be consitered a punk as PoB says.
So rember that everyone excpecially junk posters who are viewing this thread right now.

09-18-2002, 09:18 AM
hey - i think that the five post rule is a good idea
this is my first post so i figured i'd put it in a suitable thread
I'm actually surprised it's not a 10 or 20 post rule. That would make more sense. I wouldn't think most people looking to spam their way into downloads won't take the time to post twenty times. Five time is easy, but 20 times is boring! :)

I think that for the amount of material you could theoretically accumulate from this site, that five posts is probably low for what they should require. It's really a great source of MIDI/knowledge.

Depends on whether people will continue to post after they make their 5 posts. Otherwise it is kinda useless. I'm looking forward to checking out the quality.. Oh how I remember the days of playing amiga mod files on my pc using all sorts of "cutting edge" software.

Actually I don't know what to say bout that 5 posts rule. On the one hand it really makes sense, supports the community, on the other hand it's frustrating to realize that you've to write 5 posts in order to get that download permission. (Especially if writing English isn't that "floating" to you ;-) ) I really wanna share files, but I've to write 5 junk postings first :-(

Ok, one quick thing to point out: Most of the people agreeing with the rule on here have only 5 posts! There should be a rule that if you don't make at least one (1) post every 2 weeks or even every month, that your account goes into a "disbled" state, where you have to post another 10 posts before your download priviliges are restored. This would sure keep the "5 post wonders" from downloading MIDIs that we all have worked had to make (or even find) for the rest of the community. I like the 5 post idea, but I think it should go a little farther than it does right now.
Just my 2¢ worth...

Hello everyone,
I'm new at this and read about the 5 post rule in the introduction. I saw this topic and read the discussion about the 5 post rule. I think when you be a member of this forum you have to discuss with other people and trying to help eachother and don't be egoistic by only downloading the some midi-files.
So I promise I'll try to be a active member of this forum.
See you soon at the forum.

I'm new to this forum.
When I first entered I wasn't too keen on the 5 post rule, but I thought I would give it a try and look through the posts to see if I could help in any way.
I was very excited when I saw the wealth of material throughout the forum.
I think it's great that you have this rule becuase it allows people to see what the forum holds when looking for information they want.
Being a professinal musician I find the wealth of infromation here very helpful.
Look forward to lots more posting soon.
Why not make it a 10 post rule as somebody else suggested maybe im new but already i can see the advantages of this site for getting to know real peoples feelings on all aspects music i am really enjoying reading all these forums.............Happy typing

Yeah.... gotta agree with the majority on this one..... it is a good rule!
I'm only now getting back into MIDI stuff... i an't had much to do with it since the old, distant days of the amiga, and, from what i've seen of the communitty you have here, it's crammed with useful info and files!
The only downside to it all is that it takes forever going through it all...... there's just so much you can read and learn on here that you could go monthes without posting!
Plus, maybe for some of us newer people to it all, it can be a little daunting.... i for one don't have much knowledge to hand out to everyone, and if i wanna know the answer to some query i have, i can usual find it cos someone else has asked the same thing before! That ain't a moan, at all..... the boards great and i'll contribute whatever i can!! :)

People complain so much about the five post rule, but if you are truly worried about knowing and navigating the site, you will be able to "EASILY" make good post in reply to others or of your own! Take in the rules, follow them, and then chastise others for having to do it, in the end! LOL! I mean, I am in good spirits cause this is my 5th post.:assskake:

I posted 5 times on my first night because I was searching for a specific midi file ( which I still haven't found yet) CHEAP SUNGLASSES ZZ TOP, but I'm hooked on midibuddy when I needed advice for hooking up my sequencer, how to sequence, hooking up with like minded ppl. receiving & spending my MB cash, getting a glow name.....See it's all downhill from here lol

I agree that the rule should be extended if you don't post frequently. Getting up to 5 posts is no problem but if you then 'go dead' you should be penalised. I only joined today and I am really thankful I found the site. I have answered three things that have been bugging me already just by reading through other peoples posts.
I am a very novice sequencer and I think this site will be invaluable to me.
And yes I will keep posting after my 5 initial posts!!!!!!!

Lets put it this way.
I started here only a few nights ago.
I started flipping thru the topics that interested me, music set ups... favourite artists... and started replying and posting my 2 cents worth.
Soon enough I came across requests that asked for MIDI sequences that i Could fill.. so literally from 5 posts to 30 in about 3 nights.
Not only do the Mods here pat you on the back for helping, you get the recognition for doing the right thing.
You find a neat little place to fit in, and get to meet people with midi's, music, and above all, fun, in common.
Cheers.
Sabz.

Hmmm... Okay, another few cents off a newbie. Still working up to my big five. One thing about this rule, encourages you to get around the boards a bit more, doesn't it?
I can understand why the rule's in place. But when you've been trawling round the net looking for this one MIDI, and the only place that has it is here... an ickle bit annoying. I saw this site a long time ago, but was scared away by the restriction.
But, well, those files aren't going anywhere... guess it's a small price to pay for access to such a wide collection. I'm not a professional musician, and I don't have the cash to buy pro downloads. I use midi music purely for personal projects, and don't need the quality. Just something to hum along to. And this site's the best archive I've ever seen. (Don't I sound like a suckup? :p)
One thing, though. To my eyes, it just encourages a bunch of spammy posts quickly, stuff downloaded quickly, then the user clears off - you say it'll encourage community, but it's too easy not to post after you've reached the quota. I never saw any time restriction on this. If you want people to keep posting actively, there needs to be some sort of cut off. Just my thoughts. Anyone agree?
