homepage horror

Please help me. I have a russian web page that has directed itself to be my home page. I go to internet options and delete or use default. Yes I do click the "apply" button. that works fine, except when I restart the computer the russian home pages is there again like a reccuring nightmare or a case of the runs.

It's a nightmare alright! It has probably written to your registry so it will be stuck there until another web page does the same thing and over writes it. You can get software to write to your registry which will set your home page for you, try Clean Up by casimosoftware.com

make sure there's nothing in startup

run adaware (free software)

search your registry for the url you are being sent to

and perhaps uninstall and re-install your browser?

You could try searching through your whole hard disk for the url of the offending page. If it's in a file that looks like it's changing registry settings, try changing all instances of the url in that file to a url that you don't mind having as your homepage. DON'T DELETE the file itself as that could really mess up your registry.

Fixed it with AdAware (freeware) By Lavasoft.

hmm, It is a ddosey allright. I had this problem once, there are a few ways around it. 1 is to nuke your system, begin from scratch. 2 as artisan says, download adAware. Click Start>RUN> they "msconfig" and hit ok. go to the "start up" tab and un-ckeck all thet you dont reconise. DO NOT un-check regchk, systray or explorer, they are VITAL

You've obviosuly been careless. Buy Norton AntiVirus 2003, and install/UPDATE it regulary.

Myself personally haven't EVER caught a virus or been infected by a bad script (likely in your case) and that's because I think what I'm about to do. NEVER visit warez/porn sites. They are DEATH-TRAPS. Use other means (KaZaA etc., less likely using P2P). Oh, and ONLY open attachments if you KNOW what they are, and you know who they're from

If you're running a newer MS-DOS based system, that is how you do it...

If you're running an NT-based system (Win2000 or XP) you have to find the "Services" option in you Administrative Tools folder under your Control Panel.

Another good protection againt this kind of garbage is a proggy called TDS-3 by DiamondCS

It will let you know if there have been changes made to your systems Autostart or registry.
