I've recently started designing my own web site. This has come about due to my wife being pregnant with our 4th and 5th children (at the same time). I wanted to let friends etc follow the pregnancy with us.

Has anyone got any good ideas for my site? I've already got a guest book and counter.

I am new to HTLM and any help offered by anyone would be appreciated:thumbsup:

The best way if you're using a free site like geocities or tripod is to get your graphics, backgrounds etc... off the net. There are loads of gifs and jpegs free and easy to insert in your pages. Steer clear of cheap looking ones but don't be too ambitions with them either or they'll take too long to load. When you get started send me the link and I'll be glad to offer any help.

I definately recommend geocities. It is great for beginners and a powerful tool for more advanced site designers. Just go to http://www.geocities.com to get started!:)

P.S. You don't even need to know html to build a great site on geocities!!!

I have Dreamweaver MX and Fireworks MX. The two go hand in hand. You don't need html knowledge to design a site but you need lots of time. It's like driving a car, hard going at first but very soon a walk in the park.

go to www.freewebs.com...it's perfect and there is a function called build your site within 60 seconds....it's so easy and there are no ads to bother you or any other visitors...

If you do ever want to learn HTML and understand the code that make your webpage work try www.w3schools.org. As you advance you can add Javascript to your site www.anfy.com allows you to insert cool java applets that make your web page dynamic.

If you ever get advanced enough to put complex photoshop grpahics on your site, I would recommend going to www.yaxay.com. They have tons of tutorials that dont require much previous knowledge of photoshop.

Like everyone elses posts, I'd start off with Geocities first, even though there is that little pop up. It's still a good place to start off at. You don't need to know HTML. :) hehe...well not really. *giggles*

Please... Please.... PLEASE - don't build a site with invasive pop-ups... Normal pop-ups are bad enough!

No popups is a must! Banner ads dont pay anyways.

phpwebhosting for cheap hosting that is far superior to these free sites and is very stable.

Dreamweaver MX for your coding needs, cannot go wrong.

Enjoy!~
