To avoid drawing unwanted attention, we will refer to it as Fixing or Patching a program.

Also, when posting external links (outside of this site) pointing to "security-related" or "patch/fix" sites:
DO NOT USE DIRECT LINKS!
Replace the http with h**p, and the www with w*w or w^w
(or something to that effect)

What app(z) are you trying to fix?

Cr@cks.am and astalavista#box#sk are safe - I've been there a gazillion times and never had any probs -
But as with anything of this nature - be careful, keep your virus scanner(s)/AV(s) active and up-tp-date.

www,astalavista,com is betta than www,astalvista,box,sk...

basically the .com one is bigger...

its almost like a metasearch engine that searches a bunch of search engines including the .box.sk one...

it also has other thangs other than patches...

I've been using www`astalavista`box`sk for years. It's a great website that deals with all kinds of security related issues on a variety of platforms. I've never had a problem with getting a virus from them (of course I keep my virus definitions up to date). There are a lot of porn popups though. Of course, any decent pop up killer will take care of that.

Chcek on K*zaa -
Look for a program called popup stopper, popup killer or adSubstract pro - they are ok. Although, there are other good ones out there.

Sorry guys. Being a software professional, it's tough for me to stomach folks propagating this sort of information... not much I can do about it, though. *sigh*

For a Popup-killer, try "The Proxomitron"... it's shonen-ware (meaning that the programmer wants you to check out a band called 'shonen'; other than that it's freeware)
any major search engine should give you the link you need

ZR

ZR makes an excellent point here -
I've always been a "test drive" freak.
Many times you really don't know what you're getting as far as software goes (not meaning any disrespect to you, ZR, or any other software programmers/professionals out there).
Too many times, I've bough a nicely packaged (pretty box) proggy or application, and took it home to find out it was $(insert price here) worth of worthless, or wasn't all it was cracked up to be. With most stores return policies on software, I've be stuck with it more often than not.

The only reason I use sites like the ones mentioned here is to give the program a thorough test drive before I buy it. I strongly believe that the makers/developers deserve the money for a good product - and if I'm satisfied with the product, I'll buy it - if not, I'll uninstall it.

If you like em - buy em

yeah i end up buying the program if I can't live without it, i would hate to spend my money on say a $500+ program and find out it doesn't match up to it's review, doesn't do what i want it to do, and chances are it's going to sit in somewhere in my room and I would never use it again, store return policies require the cd case not to be opened if it is opened you can only exchange it for the exact same item.

Here's an example I just bought a old game which i found on the bargin rack and my friends say the game is great, but when I started to play it it sucked like hell though the game was $10 i wasn't too worried about it but if i did something like that say with 3D studio viz which is like atleast $500, would be a big investment and if it ends up not doing what I want it to do then there's no point of me keeping the program because it's going to be useless to me. BTW i know about the program but I haven't really researched it.

Here's another example you buy a car online and they deliver it to you and you have never riden or driven in it and you have only seen the outside and thought it would be a nice car. Well when you get the car and when you first sit inside the seats are hard as a rock and you have to conform to the seats. So you start driving it, it goes pretty well at first then you try to make a right hand turn and it would hardly turn. The advertized turning radius is much smaller than in real life. The car accelerates very slowly and it's claimed to have 400hp. You call the car manufacture and say you want to return it, they send a guy out to see if it has been driven and all the signs of the car beeing driven is there and he says you can't return it but we can excahange it for you for the same model. Well you completely hate the car now, and you wouldn't even want the same car but chances are it's going to be the same if you exchange it.

BTW i like to download demos and test them out opposed to obtaining something illegally so ZR that's something for you to think about when you are designing software, but then again if you provide a full ablity program people would have a way to use it fully, but then again say you designed PS7 and you disable many of the buttons and tools, and say i wanted to test out the burning tool but it locked out chances are that I'm not going to buy the software because I might not like how it works.

Release a full demo version, do not include open and save dialogs and prevent people from changing the program and purposely change the non demo version to be something alittle different than the demo, not how it works. Will use PS7 as an example the demo proably would have the tools on the left but not the windows on the right but in the full version you have those extra windows.
