Is there any way that you can get Cakewalk to generate bass tabs instead of guitar tabs

Hi floydian11,

I have cakewalk 9 and i don't think it has an option to generate bass tab from a midi file (I think this is what you're trying to do). It can only generate 6-string guitar tab. For tab generation, I use powertab software (http://powertab.guitarnetwork.org). It can generate guitar tabs for bass and 6-string (even 7-string guitar) from a midi file. Hope this helps...

First of all make sure your in the staff view of the bass u which to convert....then:
Step 1.
Locate the button Layout, you can do this by hovering your mouse over the buttons until you get one that says 'Layout [H]' it's also the icon that has a staff, a note, and the number 4 in the bottom right corner. Click on it.
Step 2.
Find where it says 'Tabluture' and under that heading locate a tick box that has display tabluture next to it, and tick that.
Step 3.
Just below the tick box, where it say 'Define' click the down arrow next to it and click on 'Bass - Standard 4 String', and then click close.
Step 4.
Finally to create it in a txt file, click on the T A B button and it's done. :)

Hope this works.

Alex.

I wasn't expecting that much tools with it.
Wish I'd heard about it before.

Thanks again!

You should try this Alex.

Powertab supports bass. It supports 3-7 stringed instruments and you can have up to 8 guitars.

I've tried what Alex said and he's right. There's even several bass settings like, 6 or 5 strings, drop D, and also several guitar settings. Now that's great. Cakewalk has been my major tool for midi music and now, thanks to you Alex, it's even better.
I won't discard PowerTab though. It has a lot going for it.
