I like to deadpan when it comes to pet names.... go with Clyde.... or pick an adjective then pop it into bablefish and translate it to a bunch of other languages until you come up with a cool sounding word........ I know someone who has cats named "Sears" and "Roebucks".... another's cats are named Night and Day (but in latin)... a friend named his parakeet "fish" and his fish "bird".....

What does your cat look like? That would help out a bit.

Go for obscure. No more Boots or Smoky or Midnight or Shadow.
Try mining ancient pantheons: Osiris, Hathor, Heket, Loki, Frigga, Branwen, Shiva, Ishtar, Marduk, Bunjil, Tlaloc, Brighid. :)
Our cats are named eclectically: Gypsy, Isis, Thorin, Pasht, Chance, Melkor.
Pasht is a derivation of Bast, an Egyptian goddess of joy and music. Isis sounds like another Egyptian mining, but in fact comes from an old Star Trek episode called "Assignment: Earth" in which there is a cat named Isis, who is actually a shapeshifter. Melkor and Thorin, of course, come from Tolkien names.

Call him Vlad The Impaler unless you plan to get him/her declawed... the name kinda looses its oomph once the cat is declawed......
Then you could call him Vlad The Non-Impaler

Speaking of declawing (http://declaw.lisaviolet.com/), please resist the urge to mutilate the poor thing for a mere sense of convenience. :(

No ELven influences in that one I'll bet ;) (just HOW MANY times did you force the tyke to sit through the movie before he acquiesce??)

I really didn't. My uncle is an Army recruiter and my brother was enlistig so he spent the week at our uncle's place before he left for basic training. He also requested to borrow my special extende edition DVD of The Fellowship of the Ring. My uncle also happens to be a great Tolkien fan. (not so much so as I though)
Anyhow...my lil cousin is pretty smart for his age..using words like ramifications, correctly and such. He know's all the characters and the next time I saw we spent most of the afternoon running through Moria slaying Orc's and saving the princess (my sister) It was quite interesting.
Elven....i bet you threatened to stick pointy objects in him unless he watched it

I have a cat who the people we get her from named Suzy.
We just kept it, 'cause I hate naming pets.
I had a rabbit named "Blackie" (translatet from the norwegian name).
I also had a tortoise named "Diablo".
And our previous cat had no name.
My friend and I wanted to name her Dideia, a name that has no meaning to you whatsoever.

Well a really dull name for humans is most of the time really cool for cats, so i suggest:
Hans
Herman
Paul
Alex
Or maybe you prefer some cute name like toedels??? :)

Well ... this is a really important matter, it needs a lot of thinking over, and I would offer you the words of TS Elliot.
The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey--
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter--
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum-
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover--
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

... and continuing on the TS Elliot theme .. he thought up some wonderful cat names .. maybe you saw the show "Cats" ?
remember these ?
Rum Tum Tugger
Mungojerrie
Rumpleteazer
Mr. Mistoffelees
Macavity
Bustopher Jones
The cat who owns me is called Chekhov, but he escaped being called Pushkin by a whisker.
