What're the chances that some of you who've been here for a while will help the other newbies and me to understand where this all came from.... Whose idea/invention was this originally? What was the old MIDIBuddy and how did it come to be replaced by the new (above and beyond what is stated on the home page)? How long has the SuperModerater been super? Where is it all based? Any info would be appreciated.... I am a sponge.... :wiggle:

I hate it when you type something really long and you accidently click something, the page disappears and when you press back it's not there!! grr!!

Anyway, the site is mine.. my (humble) design, my idea ;)

Up for little over 2 years, the original midibuddy was an open database of just under 1000 files that resembles the archive (http://degster.com/midi/index.shtml) now. (it's the same directory structure) It was replaced last december because BMI (music license agency) was calling my house and strongly urging me to take down the files.

The free database was replaced with this message board. In fact, if you look at some of the old topics date back to oct 2001. This board was up but hadn't fully replaced the database yet. Eventually it was and the database became the 'hittrax' database which is professional pay files. (at the same time HitTrax was urging me to join them... glad I did)

It's taken almost a year to get this board developed to what it's out now. Just recently it's doubled the hits within two months. I much rather have this community than a non interactive database with crappy files.

It still amazes me when I find a person that remember the ORIginal site that stemed off the mainpage of johnsworld.com. That dates back 4 years when everyone had a midi site! haha

artisan, feel free to explain where you come in. ;)

oh, and I'm from NJ but I'm in PA now for college. I believe the server the site is on now (and has been on since 97 or so) is in florida. The new server is in NJ.. I think.. whatever.. hehe

Let Me start with "Wow"...... Yeah, I remember the days when we started playing with MIDI a few years back.... before the Napster debacle... when files were plenty (and often plenty awful!)

tpearl5..... If its not too personal, what college? I'm a PA resident myself. And thanks, this place is fun :)

I'd love to hear from some of the moderaters: What got you involved in MIDIBuddy?

sheesh...why did I get Invovled????

ummm....
I was sitting there tapping away searching for a MIDI...god knows what it was now....but this was the only site I could find that had it....
So i did my 5 posts...
downloaded my file....then did something strange......
I hung around.....

Posted some more....
then the HUB idea came up...became involved with that to the point that I am hosting the hub(well....when my connection is back up)

I think I then offered my services to tpearl as a Mod and here I am :D

I wonder if there's anybody who DIDN'T start that way ('cept tpearl5).... And how many of us thought "I'll do my 5 for the downloads, then I'm gone!" It's addictive!!

Any others wish to chime in?

Sorry guys - I was moving when this started and never caught up with it - - too busy in the requests forum the past couple weeks...

I came around in the vary beginning of June (2002).
For those of us who were around back then, we remember it very fondly, but as being quite a bit less active than it is today... I think the Active Topics search usually revealed anywhere from 1-3 pages on an average day... Not the 5-10 we see nowadays ;)

Like many others, I was looking for a few specific file that I couldn't find anywhere else.
Some of them were here, others were just requests for them.
I posted a few requests, downloaded a few (dozen) files I had been looking for and uploaded several hundred Metallica MIDIs in zip files in the New File Forum (which John promptly deleted  ).

I ended up finding what I was looking for somewhere, came back and posted it here... I started looking around more, and found that there were more really great files here (didn't take a whole lot of time to look in the first place) - plus a bunch of requests for stuff I had...
I was hooked in no time.

I've found almost 90% of anything I've ever needed here, and I'd like to think that a few people here have benefited from some of the files I've posted.

Like I've said before - this is a great community, and I really have enjoyed being a part of it! I've loved watching the board grow, and hope to a part of it's continued growth and success for a long long time!!!
