After reading reading I'm very happy!!!!
http://midibuddy.net/board/t4803.html
and Love is............
http://midibuddy.net/board/t4916.html
and replying to the two treads I am more determined to put my destiny in my own hands.
I don't know what to give to this special someone for her birthday, keep in mind I haven't told her that I have these feelings for her nor do I want to be part of a love triangle. I just want to give her something that would not imply that I'm trying to ask her out or being more than friends. I giving the gift purely as a friendly gesture.

Please voice your ideas. In a few minutes after this post will be 10/5/2002 and I want to buy the gift by 10/9/2002 but her birthday is a few days after that.

I would apperciate some serious ideas, but some wacky ones are ok but i might not consider them.

what is she into? what does she like?
is there a common interest that you share?

maybe a C.D (shakira, avril.....)

well there is a certain cartoon character.
i believe she has a collection of stuffed animals and cartoon characters.
she's into cars like I am.

I could get her a fave stuffed cartoon character but I have a feeling that she already got quite a few of those. I guess a stuffed animal or cartoon character will work but i want to give something different. It's like I got plenty of those already, "you should've thought of something better" type of thing. I want something that would be a little different than what some people might get but not so different that it looks like i've went all out.

a little dinner (by moonlight) ...

Its all about HOW you give it..... my vote.... get her an inexpensive trinket, something that hangs in a shop window (for the spontaneous effect)... maybe a pretty stained glass suncatcher or a crystal that catches the light... deliver it with a line like "I thought it was beautiful and wanted to share it... you're the first person that came to mind... Happy Birthday" Don't even wrap it... just take it out of the bag and hold it up for her to see.... It looks more like a spur of the moment decision - and makes you look more like the sweetest thing on earth!

If it looks like you thought too hard about it - it could scare her off... especially if there's a (as you implied) third side to the triangle!

I hope you hang around here awhile Jeaniesing. With more inside information like that, I may even get a girl to buy a present for.

Tough one....

A friend of mine always came up with real weird but brilliant gifts for his wife.

rather than a gift as such, he usually sent her an invitation card to some event that he would organise....

.... the last one I remember was a helium balloon ride

Now that's style!!!

jeaniesing's idea is great, hmm I might think about something like that. BTW keep in mind I have budget of a college student. I have money saved away for a rainy day but i'm not going to do something expensive or romantic. Well if she's my girlfriend then that's another story.

King.... best done in a private moment... use the fact that you "didn't get a chance to wrap it" <wink wink> as an excuse to give it to her off to the side of any festivities... or just drop by her place when you know she's there. And drop the line so she knows that you equate 'beautiful' and her..... Good Luck!

does anyone have any more ideas?

geeze, jeaniesing , how come you know so much about women????LOLOL
King, it seems you don't want to make too much of an impression on her if you only want to be good friends. 1st, are you sure that's all you want?? if so, maybe give her something that will not be a keepsake. For my girl's 21st, i told her i was going to surprise her for 3 weekends leading up to her 21st. 1st weekend, i took her to underwaterworld. She'd never been there, so it was a bit of a buzz. Second weekend, i took her parasailing behind a powerboat out on the open water. 3rd weekend i took her indoor skydiving. By the third weekend she was excited as hell, and when it was over, I was king(sorry). I shopped around to find out costs, so it was relatively cheap. My point is, maybe give her more than one surprise, something she can't hold onto, but will remember...........are you sure thtere's no romance here????

ps, i think we should have a 'design jeaniesing an avatar' comp. It's not that i don't like it, but you are such a wealth of information, you should look important, not like a surprised blue turnip(i mean that in a nice way.....honest!!)

the last thing I want to do is break up the happy couple. What I hate most is the guy/girl who's the 3 corner of the love triangle. I don't want to be that person. I do want to be with her but if it breaks my principles then I won't do it. I've been shopping yesterday and I saw a stuffed Winnie the Pooh holding up a birthday cake with a candle. When you sqeeze it's foot then it'll play the birthday song and the candle will light up. I think she'll like it i haven't bought anything yet just looking around for some ideas.

Who's gonna fund it? Is it a group effort pulling together funds or one of the rich nameglowers pay for all of it. I hate the second idea :D But I am the richest non mod name glower. I've alos noticed that everyone with 200+ posts are mods except me. I think the people in the top 10 richest who are present should discuss the prize for this competition because none of us are as rich as theartisan who has disappeared.

Y'all are so sweet fighting over whose NOT gonna fund a contest for my avatar ;) , so I'll let you all off the hook! Its not the avatar that's the issue, I'll be glad to design my own to replace the (nicely put Merlin!) "surprised blue turnip" - its getting to 100 posts! I know it'll happen eventually - but itsa gonna be a while! In the meantime perhaps I need to start an "advice for the lovelorn" thread to up my cashflow!

King? I'm still voting for my idea.... it could EASILY be interpereted as bumbling-cute-guy-friend-who-didn't-wrap-his-gift.... If you're cute that is... ;)

well the stuffed pooh i was talking about is already wrapped but in a clear giftwrap and tied at the top. I'm just proably gonna put it in a department store bag. here's what i want to know what girls think is cute. I believe they got a werid system for it. but then agian i'm just guessing.

yes I've decided to go with the pooh, 2 days of walking department stores and 3 malls and 2 shopping centers and i'm tired. I've logged over 200 miles on my car just driving to each location.

ROFLMAO
That still don't tell the whole story why I'm laughing so hard. The gift I have finally got for my friend is having her birthday celelbrated with her friend on the 11th. I also happen to have another friend whose birthday is on the 13th. We recently changed plans to the 11th and I was just notified of the change. I kinda have this figured out since they are gonna meet late at night I'll just celebrate my friend's birthday whose is on the 13th in the early evening then goto her birthday bash after that.

::waves good bye to a full tank of gas::
yes my car chuggs gas. well I can manage driving the car to and from school only for two weeks on one tank of gas. It's not going to happen anytime soon.

incase anyone was wondering how the night went. It could have been better if the timing was better. And if tolerated cigarette smoke better.
Well I'm complaining to my friends since we were in the area of the other party that we would eat first then do what ever we wanted then i would just go the other party and my friends can ride with my other friends. Nooooo! they didn't listen. So I end up driving to and from the same city twice 2 round trips in 5 hours. Yes you guessed it I spent quite alot of time driving. Well the first party was over around 10:30 then had to drive them back home that lasted till 11:00 I'm late. I pick up another friend and we then drive there and we go there at 11:30 Stayed for an hour then left because I had to drive them back so my friend can drive his girl friend home.

Got home at 1 in the morning, I wanted to stay out until after 2 AM oh well, didn't want to get my friend in trouble so i'm happy with my decision but hated the results. That's life!

Oh I forgot to mention that she's single now, hehehe. We're both very busy with school work so I don't know how this is going to work out........ and she's planning to attend a different school than what I'm planning to attend. I'll still be around for abotu a year and a half then off I go to do some real studing at a great school.

Anyways, and things went downhill in his past relationship. He waited like 1 1/2 months till he asked me out& we've been together ever since!:)(Besides my friends told me he liked me!:p )

I know I'm a little out of date on this one, but when I am stuck for gifts I get people what I see that they need. take christmas coming for EG. my brother is constantly useing my printer and draining the ink in it, so I got him a printer for his pc. My dads pc is allways saying it doesnt have enought memory, so I got him a chunk of 256MB RAM, my friend is useless at getting up ontime, so I got him an alarm clock...se where I go?

You know, as memory has it, I was moving and off the boards for a week when you posted this - - -
After that, I spent the next week and a half cleaning up the trash and catching up on current events. Remember all the trash? I sure do - It was NOT pretty.

So, I guess I know why I missed it.
