Hi.

I have a midi usb keyboard working properly - when I launch finale, i can
input, and play piano songs (where the sound actually comes out of my
speakers.)

What I have been unsucessfully trying to do is to be able to press
buttons on my keyboard and hear the sound without having to launch finale.
I'm not sure If I have the terminology right, but I think this would be an
example of 'auto sequencing'?

Is there something built in to windows that allows this? Or perhaps some
website has a solution?

Insight would be appreciated,

Mike Chinen

Sounds more like an example of 'playing the keyboard' :-)
Or am I not understanding what you want?

you seem to be looking for a MIDI Thru program - that simply takes the MIDI
input from your keyboard and passes it to your soundcard?

Do a Google for MIDI THRU PROGRAM or something like that look at
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/. Can't advise any more at the moment as I
don't know what computer and OS you are running.

I imagine you have a USB controller keyboard. There is no soundchip in such
boards and midi has no sound--it is a data file to tell a sound chip what to
sound. The controller is only sending data to the PC--not music.
The PC needs some way to decode the data coming in and recoding it to tell
the sound chip in your card what to sound. That is what a sequencer
does--it receives and sends midi code data.
