I am a newbie and need a little help, I am doing some mixing/editing on some downloaded midi's... my problem is after mixing the midis to my liking I play them through a yamaha psr550 and it seems all the mixes are good on each midi, the problem is they are all aty different volume levels. Question...
Can you adjust over-all volume level of a midi once you have mixed it so that it is saved with that level?..I seem to be able to only adjust independent tracks at mix down.
thank you for the help.

Great question, simple answer is no. Each track must be set individually. Of course you could adjust your PA volume for each song but that is a pain in the mixers arse. I play live through a PSR740 and had exactly the same problem. Tracks sounded ok through the computer or keyboard but through the PA they changed slightly which was annoying. I overcame all of this by setting the drums and bass to max volume 127. General piano or strings I would set between 80 & 100. The trouble is no 2 songs will be the same. Strings at 100 will be ok if there's a lot else going on in the midi but if it's strings only then it can be too much.
My advice is to play the song at max volume on your keyboard and mix it there and then nioting the required volumes and then editting it all for a final mix. Minor adjustments after that shoud make it sound great.
Hope that's of help to you.

I will try that thank you, I just hope it will make all the songs at the same over all level so I dont have to turn the volume knob up and down on my PA continously....thank you again!

Another thing I did at the start of gigging was to get a mate in the audience to keep a tight ear to the mix. If the strings, which I had most problems with, were too loud he either gave me a holler or noted it and I was able to fix it there and then or before the next gig.
Well worth the half dozen pints I paid him!!
Another thing I found is that a fretless bass is louder/bassier then a finger bass so I made sure the bass on all songs was a finger bass. Noone will notice. Also rock drums will be louder than standard kit so make sure they're all the same.
I had this problem too and i think it's just an ongoing tweaking process. You'll get the volumes right after a few gigs...as Ronny suggested, just make a note of certain things as you hear them and make adjustments the following day or whenever
Actually while i think of it, here's the thread where we discussed it last time
