View Full Version : Most stable hi-hat stand?

Looking for a stable hi-hat stand. Mine was OK till I bought heavy
cymbals. Now it creeps like nobody's business. Any brand is OK, but
all other hardware is Yamaha.

Thanx in advance for any opinions, observations.

My hat stand is clamped to my rack with the legs folded shut. (I wish they
still made legless stands). I don't know that you have a rack, but, using
the same principal, you may be able to add a clamp to a nearby stand (leave
the legs open on the hat) to give you some extra support.

I'm very happy with my Tama Iron Cobra, it's very sturdy, and stable.
But if you have a double bass drum pedal, you may consider the
solution of getting a bracket to attach the HH stand to the slave
pedal.

If you really wanted to you could just remove the legs. It would take a
little creative work with some metal cutting tools but it could be done. You
might even want to consider just getting a mid-line hi-hat stand a couple
years old on ebay and trying to get the legs offa one of those... that is,
if you dont' want to ruin your present stand. I bet you'de reduce the weight
of that stand big time. I know my Hi-hat stand is MY heaviest stand, but I
will admit it's a Pearl double braced PowerPro, which I bought to replace my
first hi-hat stand, at the time when I was in the mindset of 'Yea! Double
braced is what the pros use. It'll make me play better for sure!' Of course
I haven't even been playing for 5 years yet, but I quickly got out of that
stage. Now I pretty much only buy single braced.

I've considered that option, but haven't taken the time to try it out yet.

Use carpet underneath your kit.

Oh no no.... tie your bass drum and hihat stand to your throne with rope.
It's how everyone does it. :-)

I use a DW cable hi-hat....it works great! No legs at all to worry about and
set up is always the same and very stable.
I also have a DW 2 legged stand that worked great for me before I went
"legless".

Yeah I've got a DW cable hat too. It's just the cat's meow
if you use a rack. Otherwise you have to figure a way to
mount the top half. But the DW with a short cable is
just as smooth as any normal stand and it lets you
put the pedal in an optimum spot and ALSO put the cymbals
in just the right relationship to the snare without being
limited by a post that connects the two things.

Benj
(Who notes that the long cable which lets you put the
pedal on the left and the hat on the right is a great
concept, only I always found my long cable sluggish)

(IMHO, hauling arround that big-ass thing is the antithesis of practical.)

Just depends upon how huge your kit is. If you are into the
octave of toms, 3 hats and 4 bass drums thing, it's VERY practical.
:-)

Benj
(Who only uses 7 toms, 3 hats and one bass drum...I don't think
four bass drums is practical!)

Benj, you didn't happen to be playing a digital drum set in Ohio last
Thursday, did you? 8-)

Oh no! How would I know that "wipeout" would take that much
power?
