What's the best software to play midis with dls (Soundfonts embedded in the midi file)? I've heard that media player 7 does it, but I've tried and no results.

Some sound fonts come with midi editing software like finale or cakewalk. Also I believe sound fonts can be downloaded for free at http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/SOUND_FONTS/ Shareware Music Machine

You need a sequencing program like cubase and the sound font is a bank of sounds that the program can use to get the best sounds for your midi sequence. You could go check out the steinberg.com website and download a demo version of cubase and try the tutorials.
