I want to find the best SOUNDING means of converting 16 bit 44.1khz wavs into
MP3s. I did some research and downloaded something called LAME but I have no
****ing clue how to use it or even install it. Then I heard about something
called the Freinsomething.... Look, I'll pay what I have to pay, but I just
need an MP3 Encoder that is either stand alone and doesn't take a Rocket
Science degree to use, or one that I can use with my Samplitude software
"external encoder" option in its own MP3 maker. Thanks for your support.

There's a shell for the lame encoder that makes it pretty easy to use:

I use Lame as the external encoder for the Audiograbber
front end:

http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/

Install both Lame and Audiograbber, then in Audiograbber's
"MP3 Settings" check "External" encoder and set the
"External MP3 Program Name" via the "Browse" button to the
Lame.exe in the directory in which you installed Lame.

Give it the following "User Defined" arguments:

%s %d --alt-preset standard --nogap

This gives a VBR encoding (variable number of encoded bits
per block of audio depending on its complexity) with about a
190-200 kbps average. Lame with this setting is about as
good a quality as you can find. --nogap causes it to add
little or none of the silence at the start or end of each
song which it does as a default.

DbPowerAmp Music Converter

found at : http://www.dbpoweramp.com

The most easy to use, and free. And also can convert nearly anything.
Read the instruction on the same site

LAMe is just an encoder, command-line with hairy options available.
http://www.mp3-tech.org/software/encoders/lamewin32.exe includes the
latest version with a Win32 shell called RazorLame which makes it fairly
goof-proof.

Cool Edit 2.0, 1.0, or even 2000 (i think) encode so easily. File -> Save
As... -> and pick MP3 from the drop-down menu. Pick your resolution and
there ya go.

Steve,
I use the Audio Active Production Studio MP3 encoder
http://www.audioactive.com/. Simple, cheap at $34.95,
easy to use. Set the encoding parameters once, drop in the .wav
files.
Sounds good to my ears.

Yeah, that is strange isn't. My ears are fine, Deaf Mellon MESA is my
guitar player nickname. My real name is Dave Thomas. I've heard
enough "Where's the beef jokes" to last me a lifetime. I guess to
maintain
credibility around here I'm going to have to drop the pseudonym. Like
I said, I've already heard all the Wendy jokes. Dave passed on a
while back anyway.

I second this one. Right-click conversion to most formats (different codecs
are downloadable on the site). Monkey's Audio (lossless) is also available.

Blade encoder is freeware. Just drag and drop your wav onto
bladeenc.exe. Any other features are turned on through the command
line.

Just find cdex on the net (freeware) and you got it ready to work
