View Full Version : Motu 828mkII & Samplitude problem on W2K

I've just purchased a brand new Motu 828mkII and already ran in major
problems. I get clicking noises in recorded tracks and play back is even
worse. Drop Outs, clicking noises and totally scrambled sound occurs
randomly. The problems seem to increase with higher sampling rates.

I'm using ASIO drivers of course and Samplitude always shows messages
about lost ASIO buffers in the status bar.

At first I thought it must be the firewire communication between the 828
and the computer, so I did the usual. I installed all new drivers,
switched the cable, even switched the firewire card. I also played
around with all the buffer settings in samplitude of course, but nothing
seems to help. I even tried to change BIOS and IRQ settings all with the
same result.

I would really appreciate any help!

System configuration:
Windows 2000
AMD XP3000
MSI K7N2 delta
1GB RAM

I had a similar issue a ffew years ago with my original 828. First, I
experimented with different cards and found the Adaptec 4300 to be the most
sompatible Firewire card.

Make sure your firewire card is not using the same IRQ as any other device.
You can do this by opening the device manager (control panel > system >
hardware > device manager) and changing the view to "resource by type". If
your Firewire card is sharing an IRQ with any other active device, then
change it either within device manager, or, if that fails to stick, try a
different PCI socket.

Hi Flint,

Thanks for your reply. I tried anything to change the IRQ of my firewire
card, but nothing helped. W2k would not let me change resource settings
in the device manager. So I tried to move the card to every other PCI
socket, but it didn't make much difference.

Anyway I got it working now, by installing WinXP!! It might be a
coincidence but on WinXP the firewire card got its own IRQ right from
the start. I don't know if this finally made the difference or if the
firewire protocol is just better under WinXP. It doesn't matter to me,
because it's working flawless now!
