Surround recording on a Yamaha 01V96? DM24?

Greetings,

I'm looking at purchasing either a DM24 or an 01V96. Right now I'm leaning
toward the 01V96 since I need at least 3 ADAT inputs and it will expand to
that. However, I want to do Surround recording and the board dosen't appear
to be setup for that. I will be using it to frontend DP. Anyone have any
experience using an 01V or an 01V96 for surround work? Am I backing myself
into a corner buying this board? Thanks.....

Doesn't DP do surround? Depending on your computers audio interface
you should be able to just assign inputs on the board to adat outputs
and then mix in surround within DP. C-Mex makes software (for PC)
called C-Console for the original 01V. It allows the 01V to do a
rudimentary surround mix. They're supposed to come out with plugins
for 5.1 surround. Don't know if they did. The 03D comes equipped to do
surround. I tested the 01V96 but didn't look for surround
implementation. For a bit more money than the 01V96 the DM1000 will do
surround.

01V96 has 5.1 and 6.1 surround pan just like DM1000, but only 6
outputs as standard, so to output 6.1 you need an expansion card.

I believe this expansion is possible with the DM24 as well.
