View Full Version : MIDI sequence problem, help please!

Hi all,
I need some help with a problematic MIDI sequence.
I'm editing a MIDI file for a friend, who purchased the file from a
professional MIDI file company. The only editing I've performed is I've
doubled the bass track with another bass guitar on a different channel. Even
this was a long time ago, perhaps 18 months to two years ago.
All of a sudden, the file plays fine up till bar 12, where the notes have
somehow gain extraordinarily long lengths (eg one bass note is 54:017 beats
long!), and the drums cut out all together. The song kicks back in @ around
bar 47, and seems to play as normal from this point until the end.
Has anyone got any idea what would have caused this problem? It's got me
stumped - I can fix it but I'd like to know what caused it in the first
place. Would placing the file in the same folder/floppy disk as files
obtained from the internet have anything to do with it? (assuming there was
something wrong with the internet files, that is).
I hope I'm making sense with all this, it's a bit of a tricky problem to
explain, any help would be very very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Kingy75

Can you post the broken file so i can have a gander at it?

It always pays to have a couple of sets of back up files.

What are you using to play the file - maybe it is something in the sequencer
that is getting upset rather than the file?
If the file is small enough, send it over and I'll load itinto a couple of
sequencer shere to try it. De-spam my email address!

Can you post the file somewhere. so we can have a look at it?
Otherwise, we're just wildly guessing.
CubaseFAQ page www.laurencepayne.co.uk/CubaseFAQ.htm
I had a couple of Seq's go the same....
string section seemed to be stuck "on" forever.... every note just STAYED
O-O-O-O-ONNNNNN......
This also tends to gobble up the polyphony (taking notes from other
channels)
My problem......
My Sustain pedal was faulty, and it had been triggering on and off
intermittently.
When I was cutting/pasting editing, I wiped the last "sus off" {CC 64 value
0 } and every note after the previous latest "sus on" command just
sustained till allnotes off command at the end of the song.
If this is your problem.
===========
you could try putting CC64 value 0 at the end of bar12,13,14,15 etc and see
if this helps.
The big fix is to erase all CC64 info for the bass track and re-enter it
later...
===========
I hope this is all your prob is.

I'd love to post the file to the newsgroup so you can check it out but since
it's been purchased from a retail MIDI file company (incidentally a company
who distribue MY MIDI sequences as well) I am a bit reluctant to do so.
What happens if someone repairs the file then sends it all over the net, all
because I sent it the NG in the first place?

Delete everything except the offending track.
