View Full Version : Batch/mass MIDI to WAV converter?

Does anyone know of a good MIDI to digital sound renderer that would
support mass/batch conversion? I searched for those and found just two
suggestions - MidiSyn and Wavmaker. I tried MIDISyn, but it produces
awful files that don't sound anything like the input MIDIs; I wanted to
see how WAVMaker would performs, but this one refuses to process
anything except its own sample MIDIs. (I want something that uses
soundfonts, not its own patches, so Wingroove or Timidity don't
count...)
Are there any others to try? Of all the MIDI-WAV converters I tried, I
liked the results of MIDI2WAV the most, but unfortunately, it doesn't
have batch conversion...

AFAIK timidity does supports soundfonts and is particulary suited for the
job of mass conversion (at least on linux): with a simple script you can
convert thousands of MIDI into wav. Using soundfonts.

Roland VSC3 does it better than anything out there. You can still get one
at www.pgmusic.com if you buy something else you get it for minimal payment.

TiMidity++ does support using the sf2 of your choice and batch
conversion using playlists. But as you know it is not very well
documented. I have devoted a web-site to TiMidity++ to help with this
problem. Here you can get a simple installation that uses soundfonts,
links to other high quality free soundfonts, installation help files,
and a Q&A Forum that I host. Try it, you will like it! If you have
problems, use the Forum and I will help.

My free tool, SynthFont, can do this as well (only MS Windows version
available). Go to www.synthfont.com and have a look. But, wait one day
or two as I am about to release version 0.9 that has support for VST
effects.
Cheers
