Hi,

I am recording music on a Soundblaster Live and what I need is a good
microphone. What I want to do is record vocals and as well acoustic guitar.
What I am looking for is a not too mega expensive microphone that has a
reasonably good performance.
Anybody has any advice?

Greetings,
Hans

Well, you get what you pay for ... SB live is also not the best
soundcard
by a long way. However ...

You can get a good condenser mic for about 100 pounds (e.g. RedAudio
RV8,
and lots of others in the same range Rode NT1a and so on). You will then
need plug this into a mic pre-amp and then the output of that in to your
line-in of your soundcard.

Behringer do a cheap per-amp and have a cheap cap mic too ...

It all depends on what quality you want. Buying good stuff now will pay
off if you upgrade later to a better soundcard.

You might be able to use e.g. a Shure SM58 dynamic, but I am not sure if
you will get the signal level to drive the input stage of the Live
reasonably.
The 58 is a good choice for vocal and guitar, but the cap mics pick up a
little more of the subtle sounds, and acoustic guitar may be better with
one of these.

Hope this helps,
