View Full Version : ICP Worst Band of All Time?

According to Blender magazine at least...

ICP = Insane Clown Posse

Then they listed my favorite band (ELP) as the 2nd worst...I couldn't
think of two acts that are more different. I guess everything sucks
except for what they like.

Michael Bolton and Kenny G in there somewhere too, but hey that's too
easy of a target.

The really lamoid thing is that if you go to this link on their site:

http://www.blender.com/articles/article_466.html

They only show 50 - 40, and want you to go buy the magazine to see the
rest of the list.

If that's the best reason they have for buying their rag, I don't see
them staying in business for long.

I've often thought that music critics came from the same place that
spawns Time Share condo salesmen, telemarketers, political
consultants, and internet spammers...

p.s. If you read their description of why they don't like ICP, I think
they are missing the whole point, they ARE stupid because they ARE
SUPPOSED TO BE STUPID.
What do they think that genre is about "art" or something?

They were sending me the mag for a few months for free when they launched.
It's kinda cool.

I saw this list and it doesn't make much sense other than they seemed to hate
people in all times frames and genres.

Well I followed some link that gave the fave bands of the
editors....typical muso critic stuff including ELVIS COSTELLO.

Now he is not my cup of tea but I guess I don't really hate him; seems
like a nice guy and he never really "sold out".

But music critics always seem to have this love affair with Elvis
Costello, which love him or hate him, Diamond David Lee Roth was spot
on with this quote:

"The reason that music critics all love Elvis Costello is that they
all LOOK LIKE Elvis Costello"

I did enjoy EC (Costello, not Clapton) on the Simpsons, especially
when he tried to give Homer a bass instead of a guitar.

That explains the ELP thing... they all gotta hate 70's art rock, even
though they gotta love Zappa even if they don't listen to him much... was
Tull on the worst list? And Talking Heads on the best?

Serious or not, it's pretty boring stuff. If you want parody, get GWAR.

It's sad... just because buncha nerdy teenage boys without girlfriends
take ICP seriously, they assume that ICP take ICP seriously which is obviously
not the case as anyone who has heard ICP knows.

A lot or writers tend to like him because he's, well, a really good writer.
His lyrics are consistantly strong. A lot of musicians forget that a lot of
not musicians aren't nearly as interested in musician details than they are
general mood, beat (or not) and lyrics.

I agree, it's boring. but artistically offensive? It's not trying to be
art!

I rather enjoyed the article. When I was at my local bookstore I
finished the article and was happy there were a few of the bands I
abhore, namely Creed... and the Goo Goo dolls.

Well I'm used to people making fun of ELP, they probably are too. The
thing is they always get pegged as these stuffy shirt, ultra serious
guys, whereas if their critics actually saw them, or met them, or
listened to more of their music they'd find they have a real "British
Humor" streak to them. I mean they have songs about Transvestites, bar
fights, and stuff, hardly the subject matter of pompous art rock. Not
to mention famous lines like "performing on a stool, we've sight to
make you drool, seven virgins and a mule, keep it cool keep it cool.

Hey, anybody that goes onstage in an amadillo suit is ok by me...

Usenet must be dropping (an unusually high number of) messages, I
don't see the post where you say "I agree, it's boring. but
artistically offensive?" nor the "I rather enjoyed the article"
response on my news service. I just saw another RAP thread with quotes
from missing posts.
Below I quote "the original Usenet article" that gives a URL to the
magazine article (my newsreader shows you responding to the original
article).
It's some sort of "power outage" on the Information Superhighway,
perhaps related to that other power outage.

OK, here's a question (after going to the Blender site):

Is #50 less "worst" than #41? Isn't that the same as being better?

Is #10,000 better than #50? If so, all of the bands I've been in are better
than those on this list.
