View Full Version : kick pedal to hoop fixins

I've seen everything from wads of tape to beer bottle lids. Wood hoop
players don't have this problem (theirs is replacing those expensive
wood hoops after a bit of chewing 'em up) but metal hoops are kinda
concave and most often need something between the pedal and the hoop to
make a more solid connection. The best thing I had, was a piece of
rubber that came with my Pearl Export kit that was taped to the hoop.
When I sold the kit, I sold the rubber piece with it. Can you buy these
separately? What do you guys use for this? Can you buy metal hoops
that are flat like wood ones?

I've used pieces of leather from an old belt or shoes in the past. One of
the nice things about my Sonor Performers is that the rubber buffer is
"built in" to the BD hoop. I wonder if Sonor did this with all their metal
hoops?

I use Dr. Scholl's "mole foam" or something of that nature. it's just
like a mousepad (which I've also used), except that instead of being
rubbery on one side, it has adhesive.

it should be right next to the moleskin and other such products at your
local drug store.

just be sure to lift the clamp on your BD pedal up extra high when
attaching it to the foam/hoop. the foam can get chewed up fairly easily.
but it's no big deal, since a $4 package will give you 10 or so
appropriately-sized cutouts.

I use the pile of useless mousepads I seem to collect at conferences. You
can cut them up nicely and they seem to hang on for a good long while.

Can you buy metal hoops that are flat instead of concave, like wood
ones? This would eliminate the need entirely. I'm surprised they
weren't invented yet.

Won't hardened moon gel work for this?

(Q: How do you harden a moon gel?
A: Get a female moon gel to whisper in its ear.)
