Hi all,
I have a question if you all wouldn't mind taking a second to answer -
particularly those of you running MIDI / Demo / Backing track / other
related businesses/hobbies.

I've been considering starting a small business producing custom MIDI
backing tracks (mainly as audio CDs for singers but also GS/GM MIDI files on
floppy disc if/when required).
I presently do some custom MIDI sequencing now & then as a hobby and
everyone I've worked for has praised the quality of my work, saying I could
go into business doing it by myself.

What I'd like to know is what (if any) market research did you do before
venturing into your MIDI business, considering there are numerous MIDI
file - and now mp3 backing track - companies in existence today?
And if you're not currently running a business/hobby in this field, what
market research would you suggest doing?

Any advice you can offer would be great.

Regards,

Chris

Chris,

I'm always in the market for quality MIDI files featuring brass that can be
adapted as arrangements for my band - put me on your mailing list.
Please send a catalogue of current work or price list for custom MIDI files.

I'd suggest contacting talent agencies in OZ and elsewhere.

TIA

I am very interested in this also. Chris, would you be interested in being part of a team? I am a sequencer and am sort of thinking about doing the same thing as you.

Let me know if you find any helpful info

Weve(some fellow sequencers) been discussing this idea too, check it out if u want

Chris,

You may find this interesting. http://www.quantumportal.com can
improvise with 12 virtual musicians to produce MIDI Files of chord sequences
you enter or chord sequences you ask the software to compose. Here is a
demo: http://www.quantumportal.com/qp_demo4.mid It produces infinite
music.

It enables you to try out chord sequences with interchangeable JamFiles
( collections of instruments ) until you get a configuration that sounds the
way you want.

If you feed it the chord sequences of a popular song, it will improvise
on the background chords with the melody missing ( perfect for vocalists who
need backup music to practice with ).

Guitar instructors can produce the same chord sequences over different
Tempos to enable guitar students to practice a chord sequence slowly and
gradually speed up as they are able.

Best of all it is Freeware.

I created my "Life On Mars -Prophecy-" music CD with this software.

One of my tracks was aired on Canadian radio Valentine's day, entitled
"Kiss In The Rain".
