Have a chance to pick up a Lynx L22 card well below list price. I've
been
using an M-Audio Delta 1010 into a G4 and do primarily broadcast
audio for radio/TV spots or narration soundtracks.

I also now have a Waves L2 Ultramaximizer which is praised for its
A/D-D/A conversion. I'm thinking that if I used the L2 as an external
AD/DA into the Digi. I/O of the Delta's card, the Waves conversion
would be favorable over the M-Audio converter. Hence I'd just keep the
M-Audio, for the I/O card alone.

OTOH, can anyone see any particular advantage to moving up to the Lynx
L22 as opposed to to the above scenario?

I'm hoping to give someone an answer on the Lynx deal asap so if
anyone can address this question, I'd definitely appreciate your
opinion(s).

Thanks!

Why think about it too hard? You have everything you need to try it.
Hook it up and listen. I'm certain that it will sound different, and
you might like it better.

Sure. First off, the L2 hardware is, what, 3-4 years old now? There
has been more than a little progress made in converters since then.
Whle the L2 might have been an excellent converter for its time, I
have no idea of how it stacks up against a modern, well designed and
well built card like the Lynx L22.

My advice, since you're bragging about being able to buy an L22 at
well below list price is to buy it and compare it with what you have.
Surely you'll be able to sell it without a loss if you don't think
the improvement is worth the cost to you.

But think about this, too. If you free up the L2 from A/D and D/A
converter chores, it will be available for other things, things it's
really designed to do. You might find that handy. Or if you're not
using it for a sooperdooper peak limiter, sell it.

Thanks for your concise advice Mike. Yes I am a great over-thinker;)

Considering my lack of need for the 'patchbay' & M-Audio's breakout
box,
the L22 card would be worth trying.

Can't say the price is all THAT far below list price after all, having
checked it out a little more.

Anybody wanna buy a Delta 88...er --1010? Low Miles!
