I see an add in the latest MD for Titanium coated cymbals made by Zildjian
called ZXT.
Has anyone had an opportunity to hear what these sound like? I'm curious
what that would do to the sound.
Is there any danger the titanium would flake (or wear) off after a while
exposing the copper underneath?
Thanks.
Doug.

It's a B8 sheet metal type cymbal. It is manufactured to be a loud cymbal
for rock. Zildjian says the color is in the metal, not an application.

My local drum shop, The Drum Circuit here in SLO had some great in-put
about these:
Zildjian has made another slightly above entry cymbal. However, they
are quite pricey for what they are. They thought they may carry a few
just so the folks that have to have "Zildjian" can have one or so. Not
putting the co. down or anything, I have a lovely ride that's old old
old.
I tried all of the Titaniums at a Guitar Center in LA area. They
sounded really tinny. High pitched , and sort of clangy. But then
I like deeper tones. They looked like they were stamped out just like
the ZBT's which are entry level.
just my humble opinion........

Thank you Tara and George. That is exactly the info I was curious about.
I am using a few B8's at the moment and they are really rather horrible in
my opinion. I guess this line of cymbals is not what I'm looking for.

The Drum Pad has all of them in stock at 847-934-8768 and can ship
them anywhere. They look nice and have a high end zing during their
decay.

I'd hit Evan/PeriscopeR up for some of those excess Sabians he has coming
in. Whatcha got for us, Evan?

While I wouldn't use any of these cymbals myself I thought the china
wasn't bad and I liked the rock ride. It had a deeper fundamental
pitch than the regular ZBT rock ride, a good bell and a very clear
ping with little wash.

I saw them for the first time at a trade show yesterday (MIAC in
Montreal). I have one word for the sound, and that's: cold. The person
I was with thought they were great. It's a matter of preference.
They certainly don't sound like poor-quality cymbals, but I personally
prefer a much warmer sound.
Anne.
