Can anyone recommend a cheap external sequencer that I can plug into a
Clavinova clp920? All I want is to be able to record myself practicing, I
don't need any more sophisticated functionality.
One device that I've heard of that fits the bill is the Yamaha MDF3, but
they seem to have been discontinued (at least here in the UK). Can anyone
suggest anything else?
Thanks
Paul

Does the Clavinova have Midi in and out jacks?

Yes, it has MIDI in, out and thru connectors. Does that mean almost any
sequencer will do the job?

Yup.
If there's a MIDI out, any sequencer will record it. If there'a a
MIDI in, it will play back. That's what MIDI in and out are for :-)

Yes you can get and sequencing software like Cakewalk and that will do the job.
I have Yamaha keyboards also and the unit they sell the MDR-2 is lousy because
it uses Yamahas own format and is not compatible with software like Calkwalk or
some of the others. Plus they get almost $1000 for it. Get Home Studio Calkwalk
and it will do all you want.
Yamaha has a nice little MDF-3 hardware sequencer that use 1.44 MB floppies

Hi Paul
Get a MDF2 or MDF3 as you suggested. (MDF2 only handles 720K floppies).
There are plenty of shops in the UK still with MDF3's. Or get an MDF2 from
Ebay or Loot (I did!).
Best option for "simple". Just like using a tape recorder, but it can also
be used for downloaded MIDI's off the net...
Best.
