Hello,
Has anybody had any luck using Finale 2003 with GigaStudio 96? I
currently use Finale extensively and am looking to purchase GigaStudio
96 to output/mix. Do they work well together? Details as to how or how
not would be appreciated. If not, is there a comparable or better
product to use?
Thanks in advance,

On the same machine? Or separates?
What spec machine(s)?

If its on the same machine:
Start Giga first. Select Finale in the sequencer list and start Finale from
the sequencer button in Giga. Again, start Finale from Gigastudio. Giga has
to be running first.
In Finale Midi menu select the Nemesys Midi ports.
Assuming you set up Gigastudio correctly, you'll be able to access the Giga
channels by setting the staves up in the Instrument list, which I think is
under the Windows menu of Finale.
Make sure your Midi thru is turned off in the Midi menu of Finale. Might as
well choose a fixed channel, like 1 and load in your piano in Giga channel
1.
This should get you started...

The machine I plan to run them both on for now is a 1 GH P4 with 512
SDRAM. I plan to get a near-top-of-the-line Dell (or Voodoo, budget
willing) in the next several months. Should I wait until then to
purchase GigaStudio?

What I'm looking for is a way to take the scores I've written in
Finale and have them played back as realistically as possible to be
used as quality demos (and for my own enjoyment for pieces that never
make it to production).
It sounds like this combination will do the job (and more). Is there a
better combination? I'd prefer to stick with Finale, but any would
appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks again,

It will work.
Do you actually get any sounds with GS96, or just the sampling engine?
You may have to spend a LOT more money buying sample sets.
Note that output from Finale will always be rigid and quantised - it's
a scorewriter, not a performance synthesiser. Unless you're into lots
of micro-editing, the way to get a realistic-sounding performance
continues to be playing music in from a keyboard or other controller.
Buying the best sample sets available won't change this.

What I normally do (to get a better feel for the piece) is to notate it
in Finale, export it to MIDI, load it into Cubase and run it through the
Edirol HQ Orchestra VSTi. I have a lot of note articulations for this
express purpose (ie, program changes to spiccato strings or pizz). The
end result is an almost passable approximation of what I'm going to end
up with when it is performed for real.

I have never gotten Finale to play back at performance level.
For instance tonight I did a score in Finale and tomorrow I'll sequence that
score intoCubase
to make it sound real.....Finale as good as it is is to cumbersome for
performance.
