I have one. It's a useful unit but not sonically the best. I think it
has more of a home in sound reinforcement than in the studio. 8
channels of expansion and compression at that price isn't going to be
any great shakes. I usually use mine just to gate the drum set when I
want to. I don't reach for it when I want to compress a vocal or
anything like that. A useful tool, good bang for the buck, not going
to cow any 1176's.

In fact, this is the suggested category of usage by Presonus.

The compressors are useful on a drum kit, the gates are not, for me

The gates stink and the compressors are so so, but basically usable.
The best thing you could say is that it's small and dense, but for me,
it's a waste of 3U. I tend to bypass them when I encounter them at a
live show and use my own stuff, but YMMV... For me, the 2 knob dbx
gate built into a compressor (like the 166, 266, 1066 etc.) works far
better.

I know people that like them though, so maybe it works for your style.
Try one out and see what it does...
