Was that the upstairs room on Cahuenga? If so, the first CS&N was cut there.
Don't remember the gear.

Studio 4 was down Cahuenga from the main Heider building on the corner of
Cahuenga and selma.

It featured a custom Bushnell console with API components,

Not sure what records were recorded there. I can't even remember what the
projects were that I did in the room. After the Heider bankruptcy sale I think
David Kirschenbaum (?) took over the room as a personal use studio before
taking over Richard Perry's Studio 55 which was the old Decca Studios.

I seem to recall that Heider four was badly damaged in the last earthquake and
was demolished.

BTW it was almost next door to the famous Martoni's italian restaurant which
was a major music hangout from the 60's onward. it closed sometime in the 90's
I think. Too bad.........

One other bit of Heider trivia. Part of the building had been Shelly"s (manne)
Manhole jazz nightclub before Wally expanded . I remember going to the auction
and you could see where the back of the stage had been and every player had
autographed the wall which ended up covered with hooks holding various audio
cables.

I just bought the API/Demedio from that room so I am very curious as
to the history of the place.

Now THAT was a club. Missed getting there by a couple years but had
some good times at the Parisian Room before it got leveled for a new
Post Office...

Here's an even better one.

Years ago I ansered a local ad fro some games (pinbalss or something) and the
owner said they were being stored in a basement at the corner of Hollywood and
Western.

For some reason it popped into my head that teh famous jazz club the Basin
Street West had been somewhere on that corner, and sure enough the basement
turned out to be the club which was full of legal storage boxes but still
virtually intact. You could see the bandstand, the phone booths the
decorations, everything.

Later I was able to see where the outside entrance had been on Hollywood Blvd
just east of western. (boarded up of course)

Sadly the entire building got demolished soon after to make way for the new
metro line.

If you ever see a copy of "Woody Herman 1963" check it out. Recorded live by
Wally Heider (see we even got back to him) at the club it is one incredible big
band lp. I think it may be available on CD now.

Shelly's Manhole was on Cosmo Street (actually more like a one block long
alley). Directly across from Shelly's, stood Herb Cohen's "Cosmo Alley", a
great folk club.
