Hey,
I just got the digi newsletter and saw the hardware trade-in offer.
At $900 bucks off list, it seems mighty tempting. I'd be going from an
001 to 002 rack if I get it.
The question is, are the 002 converters substantially better than the
001s? I already have a Frontier tango 8 channel ADAT converter. Are
they better than the Tango converters?
Are the mic pres (now 4) substantially better than the 001's? I'm not
too concerned about the pres, because I have a couple decent outboard
pres and a Mackie 8 bus (don't bother grousing about it.I know how lots
of you feel about it.)
In short, is 96k sampling and firewire, and everything else weighed-in
worth the money I have to plunk down? I'm not sure what the final price
would be, but at $795 list, I'm very tempted. ..and my wife has already
said I could look at it.....
I know there are lots of other variables involved, but do you have any
ideas or opinions, one way or the other?
Thanks for any help.
Tod

It seems to be a very fair deal, given that most who purchased the Digi001
paid $799 for it. Like me, you've already upgraded the pres and converters.
Dunno if it's worth it for 96k and Firewire capabilities alone.

Has anyone had any success running an 002 (rack or board) with a G4
Yikes? According to Digi it's a no-no . I'd like to take advantage of
the trade in offer, but I want to wait fo the 2nd rev of the G5....sort
of a rock and a hard place.

(I assume you're talking about the 002 Rack)
Pretty much everything about the 002R is a substantial upgrade from the 001.
The mic pre's, converters, power supply, computer interface, all
significantly better. 24/96 might not mean much to you now, but it
eventually will mean everything. Whether it's worth the money to you is
entirely dependent on your needs. I have trouble finding circumstances
where it wouldn't be worthwhile though, only if you valued 18 inputs more
than 24/96 (002R can only do 12 inputs at 24/96) and were already heavily
invested in outboard gear.
