hello,

show and tell time,

has anyone else found that the presonus IDSS is excactly what they
want to hear when using as a active DI for a pizeo pickup? it seems
to smooth it out just enough to get rid of the brittleness and
"quackiness", for lack of a better term.

it has worked very well for me on violin, archtop guitar, and bass
guitar. and it's two channel, so the other channel can be used for
the mic (without the IDSS though, on the mics i find that it tends to
make the sound "distant").

can anyone here recommend other amps, DIs, that has a similar
function?

Wow, I haven't ever used it like that but I will give it a try. I
actually like the IDSS on a harsh sounding vocalist to take the 'edge'
off. It also is nice on bass guitar. You have to be careful with it to
not take too much of the high end away, but in general I've found it
to be useful and it has saved me from pulling out an eq.

The only thing I know of that does something similiar (boosting even
order harmonics) is the Distressor. But it is a totally different
animal since it is a comp/limiter (and a mighty fine one at that).
