Don't forget to bring a TOWEL!

I just acquired a Roland GR-50 & GK-2A pickup
via eBay, and I wondered if anyone had any
experience with this rig. In particular, I wonder
if anyone knows if there's anything on the net
regarding Adrian Belew's patches for this thing.
I understand the GR-50 is supposed to be a very
flexible, yet frustrating box -- frustrating because
it's non-intuitive, and programming/storing new
patches is supposed to be a giant PITA.

In the meantime, I need to go to the hobby
shop and get some balsa... the li'l plastic risers
that go between the guitar body and the hex
pickup aren't sufficient to raise the pickup to its
optimal height (1mm from strings!).

My Ode to Jarl comes even closer to fruition...

You might try the Yahoo group on the GR-30. Despite the name, all guitar
synths are discussed there.

With respect to the shims, I have three guitars with GK-2As, all mounted
with screws and springs. This is the absolute best way to be sure the
pickup will always be the proper height.

Thanks -- I'll do that!

I just don't want to drill into any of my guitars
at this time. I have a beater Ibanez that I could
do this on, but it has other issues. Still, it may
become the "synth guitar." It would likely be the
most fun, since it has a locking vibe.
