Just got this import. Not in US yet as far as I know. Course some of the
first cuts are a little thin. Smoke On The Water, well it is what it is.
You can really hear the sloppiness, nothing hides, yet the song works..
sort of, OK, it's a classic..
One word, Lazy! What an awesome sound. The classic rock organ growl,
Blackmores searing leads, even the harmonica, and the Drums, forgot
about those drums, wow! And then 'Space Truckin'. I dunno, not the
greatest song, but those DRUMS. They sound amazing on DSD. Finally,
digital I can love.

I had a chance to hear the 2 track masters a while back when they were doing
some of the DVD-A and SACD mastering and it sounded great.

I just heard that there could soon be players for cars. Yes!
"Honda has plans to make it standard equipment in their Acura division
by 2006. Each day that goes by more albums are being remastered to SACD"
Just checked the Sony site, Toys in the Attic is coming out on DSD. One
of my favorites.

It will be interesting to see if people buy SACDs like they did CDs and replace
their music collection yet again. Of course this only helps the catalog
divisions of most labels.

That was the day I was there, wasn't it? We also listened to some data
compression schemes. The masters (non compressed of course) did sound
great, but as an old Purple fan, I'm probably biased by fond memories.

A bass player friend of mine got a hold of some copy of Deep Purple
playing in Denmark in the 1970's (72 or 73). He is in Chicago area, he
sent a copy on VHS down to me.
It's actually a very high quality broadcast, B&W from Danish TV.
Pretty decent audio quality.
We put it on one night after band practice and wound up watching the
entire thing.
Ian Paice (the drummer) was/is an amazing drummer...I had not realized
how much that guy made the band...without him and John Lord they would
have just been an average band IMHO, those two made the band.
I had never really thought about Paice being a great drummer that
much, but our drummer, who is into Bruford, Weckl, Palmer, Cobham,
Bonham, all the prog, jazz, and rock greats was saying, "oh yeah Ian
Paice was a phenomenal rock drummer".
Usually you get bored watching an old video like that but we watched
the entire show (over an hour long) and it was about 1 am in the
morning.
Dig those 1970's Danish hippy chicks too!

Hammonds through Marshalls...mmmmmm
It's a wonder Jon Lord isn't fully deaf by now.

Hmmm.... I bought the dvd-a a while ago, so I won't get sucked in to
the SACD.
However, I can say that the mix on the dvd-a, and keep in mind this is
only the prologic mix, is freakin' incredible. I feel like I'm in the
hallway at the Grand Hotel, standing right in front of Paice's kit.
Of the three dvd-a's I own so far, Hotel California, Rumours, and MH,
MH is by far the best improvement over existing releases.
I've owned three different releases of MH on cd, and this just plain
blows everything away. I can't imagine the sacd sounding enough better
to justify buying it yet again, though....
