I´m wondering if it´s possible to synch up a PC via midi to a Mac. I´m
about to buy a new computer and I´m considering buying a G5. It´d be
nice to be able to run some soft synths on my PC and control them from
the mac.
It´s possible to do it between pc´s but across the platforms ?
Please shed some light.
all the best

Definitely. They can both be connected to your MIDI interface. Set each
computer's sequencing / recording software to "lead" or "follow", and
they should play together just fine.

Sure. MIDI Out to MIDI In, no problem. There will be some timing
issues you'll have to resolve if you'll be combining the MIDI synths
with audio recordings, both with the response time of the soft synth
("latency") and because of the delay in MIDI processing and data
transfer.
You'll next be asking "how bad is this delay?" and the answer is that
it depends on your computers, the density of your synth parts, your
software, and how fussy you are about "perfect timing." In other
words, if you want to do this, unless you're just playing MIDI
sequences from the Mac, sending them to the PC, listening to them, and
that's the end of the line, you WILL have to deal with latency. The
good news is that it's not insurrmountable. No point in telling you
what to do though before you get set up.
