Not you George, but how friggin' STUPID do you have to be to install a
"patch" received in an email. Really.

I got an "Undeliverable" message in my email today. My computer is not
infected, but apparently somebody who has my address on their list got
sobigged, and infected emails were sent to everybody in their address book,
showing me as the sender. When one of the addresses was invalid, I got the
notice.
The scary thing is, the message said "for further information, click here to
download the attached file" - application.pif. I can see how somebody who is
not all that familiar with computers (my wife, for example) would click on that
download button.

Yes, welcome in the world of computers. There is something tempting in
protecting users against themselves ... PC's are complicated in hardware and
software and if Apple or Linux would have more installed base virusses will
be made for those operating systems.
My eurocent in this thread is that it is common knowledge bots are searching
usenet (newsgroups) for e-mail adresses. Do not reply on spam because it
will confirm the adress is alive.
In 1996 spam started to come in and the cause was me using my own
mailboxadress on usenet. That is why I'm using a nonsense adress ... I'm not
a troll, far from that, just tired of spam and the abuse of something that
is supposed to bring us closer together ... the rec.music.makers.percussion
newsgroup.
Cheers, Murgen

Remember that some people voluntarily use AOL as an ISP. It's not
so much stupid as not knowing better.

That's easy, it was not targeted for the mac OS. If you want to take down the
internet or back bone you don't target a Mac. You would only take 5% of the
netwroks world wide. ;o)

Being a 5% minority is no joy. Having to spend twice as much for a pc, and
trying to find it's software cheap is no joy.
Never really learning how computers work is also no joy. ;o)
