I'm not a "Pro" but I thought I'd ask here because, well, you are the
professionals and shoudl know best. Anyway I have been offered a Korg 1212
I/O soundcard quite cheaply. It's fully boxed etc and the previous owner is
a friend and is a Cubase expert etc. He's moved on to greater things but
offered me first pick on this.
Money is tight for me and I have other considerations i.e a new car but I
really must look into this soundcard as I myself want to start moving on the
music world. My current setup is Pentium III 600 Mhz, 20 Gb HD (soon to be
80Gb), 256 Mb ram (soon to be doubled), Soundblaster Live Platinum card with
breakout box. I work mainly with Cool Edit pro but I am actively learning
Cubase SX (which actually runs fine on my Windows 98 SE machine). I am not a
Cubase power user in that I don't have millions of tracks and thousands of
VST instruments running at the same time. I have been brought up on a Fostex
4 track portastudio so anythingthing more than 10 tracks is unknown
territory for me. In Cubase I tend to work with soundfonts in creating the
music which means I have 0 latency then I audition the VSTi. Even with the
SB Live card I am down at 42ms latency which is fine for me. This is teh
question, would the Korg represent any significant leap for me as far as
performance and quality. Currently on the SoundOnSound small ads website the
cards are between £55 and £85 so it will not break the bank but money is
still an issue regarding priorities.
Secondly, would the two cards happily reside side by side on my machine.
Many thanks and I look forward to your replies.
