As far as sharing a broadband connection over a network there are no restirctions isps can impose on this.

If you mean sharing a broadband connections phsyical bandwidth with your neighbours, the performance you'd achieve would be dependant on
a) how many people about you have broadband,
b) the proximity to your local exchange,

If you're using broadband on cable im not sure of the issues with it.

Hope thats some help,

Douglas.

I would just get a router, you can get a good one for about 50 bucks, I recommend a linksys one, and thats all you need to share your broadband eiternet connection, no software to install, really easy

I have a Netgear DG814 modem/router/switch all in one. You plug it into your phone line and plug in up to 4 computers and all can acess the BBand connection. Can add more computers by adding another switch on the network somewhere. The DG814 includes a modem too so its a nice complete package. COst Around £100. You can get a wireless version of it now though I think.

You would also need network cards in all the computers that you want to share the BBand conn. These are dirt cheap and cost around £10 each.

You'll need a router. Linksys is pretty good/inexpensive. Some ISPs filter connections by the MAC address of the network card in your PC. With the Linksys you can assign the MAC address of your network card to the network interface on the router, allowing you to get around the filtering. For more info you can check out Linksys' website and search for "MAC address"

Get a Linksys router, set it up for NAT and allow it to be the point of contact. Not only will this allow you to share your machines on the network, it adds an extra layer of security.
