View Full Version : OT: Doncha Love Cold Medicine? :-)

I'm on whatever I've been taking for this cold and it has me totally
loopy. What a goofy, floaty, slow motion feeling this is. Reminds
me, just slightly, of the trip I took on Demerol after my
appendectomy.

I thank God every day I'm not a drug addict, because I could get
real used to this feeling. :-)

What's fun is trying to play a gig on the stuff. Can you say "mystery
meter"?

Man...I had a collapsed lung, once...85% collapsed, the cavity between the
lung and my ribcage all filled up with blood and mung...most painful thing
I've ever felt. One shot of demerol...woo!

I had a session scheduled for today, but it was cancelled a couple
days ago. Now, I'm glad it was. :-)

dextromethorphan hydrobromide...active ingredient in cold/cough medicine.
plain and simple it's a synthetic opiate. codeine used to be used for cough
suppressant but it's addictive so the good folks at robitussin came up with
a synthetic alternative. I talked with a pharmacist about it and he gave me
the scoop. some cough syrups are pure DM in cherry syrup...I can't believe
they make it available over the counter cause it's every bit as powerful as
a lot of illegal drugs and it's cheaper.

DXM is not an opiate, but more of an hallucinogen. Kids go and buy the tablets,
which are basically pure DXM and take about 10X the recommended dosage. Remember
the Beevis and Butthead episode where they drank the cough syrup? :-)

the doc told me it's a synthetic opiate, not actually an opium derivative.
yeah, I remember the beavis and butthead episode..."the leading subscription
cough remedy...uh, huh huh." I'm miss those idiots! I didn't know it came
in tablets over the counter. I can tell you that it really is a damn crazy
hallucinagen. that's all I'm going to say =)
