Caught the Lottapianos Tour in Philly the other night - Ben Folds and
Tori Amos. Man, the keys were smoking!

But so were the drums - first time I've ever seen Tori, and Chamberlain
definitely rocked. This guy's nuts - he's played for everyone! I
really liked the huge amount of tom work he does - fits Tori's piano
playing wonderfully.

I was far enough back from the stage that I was getting just a touch of
sound latency. Very irritating. I could tell Chamberlain's hits
weren't sounding right. Oh well, I'm nitpicking ::-)

He has it pierced. It is a Holey Wholly Holy Holy-Water Cannon.
He makes it official. It is a Canon Holey Wholly Holy Holy-Water Cannon.
Batman and Robin arrive. He shoots them.

Absolutely! The man's got game, that's for sure -- one of my favorite
drummers. Two things:

1) Check out Critters Buggin' -- I like the album Host, but they're all
awesome. That band contains Chamberlain and at least one other member of
New Bohemians (Edie Brickell's old band, which he was a part of). Lots of
the tom work you talked about, PHAT grooves and tasty loops on that album.

2) If you can, check out his performance with Tori Amos on Sessions at West
54th. They rerun them all the time on the Trio network, and it really is
one of the best shows on TV. His performance (and his drum sound!!!) are
great.

Is it available on tape? I can't even get cable out where I live, so if
it's not on broadcast TV, I'll never catch it...

please clarify:
you mean you were hearing his drums acoustically and then through the
PA?

or the drums then the band?

or what?

or just you heard them after you saw them [drum hits i mean]?

thanks

I think what he's trying to say is, he SAW Matt Chamberlain but he HEARD
Bernard Purdie.

Well, I mean that I could feel a difference between the sound and the
visual - he'd strike the drum, and there'd be a few millisecond delay
before I heard the strike through the PA. I was way to far back to hear
it acoustically.

Now, he was dead on with everyone else - it's just that it's hard to
notice a piano player or a bassist playing a note from where I was
sitting.

So it *sounded* awesome. It was just a bit visually odd.
