Anyone familiar with the R8 could you tell me why it makes a whooshing
echoing windsound when I start it up in pattern step mode? Unit is
completely initialized.

Never heard of that before. Has it always done that?
R8 is a kewl machine but was always a pain to program, way too many windows
to pass thru.

Nah bought it used and it sat. everything else is normal.

might want to have it checked, I had a few R8's over time and do not
remember any of them making that noise.
