Since my stroke there has been some loss of grip in my right hand, so I
affixed a reminder/stop so that the stick stops creeping when it hits the
index finger rather than out through a window or something. I notice that
stick gets a lot dirtier (probably from the cymbals) than I recall from the
past. Am I going to lose my stick longevity prize? What do you guys think?

You know you aren't supposed to grip sticks like you are pounding
a nail or something! Properly held sticks are SUPPOSED to fly
through the window every now and then! :-)
If your grip is too weak a stop seems like a good idea. Also
check into stick tape, rubber grip dip, or even a sports
rosin bag.
By the way, it sounds like you are playing! So, since I must
have missed your solution, what did you come up with to keep
yourself in position at the kit? If you are getting sticks
dirty it must be working out for you pretty well!
