Are not Karaoke files just mid files
with the extension changed?

I went to a couple of websites and they said to change
the .kar to .mid and then it becomes a midi file
anyone want to clear this up?

yep, that's true. The .kar extension is only used to say that the midi file contains words.:boink:

In .kar files, the text is saved as meta event FF 01. this is ordinary text data. There are a few simple rules for keeping information in the file header (language, etc...).

In .mid files, the lyrics are saved as meta event FF 05, which are actually lyric events. No other rules then SMF rules are applied.

Music data is the same.

Kind regards,
Alain
