I'm using Reason and am having a huge (1/8 second) delay from the time I hit the the kay on the keyboard from the time it registers on the computer. Computer couldn't be faster. MIDI input is a Layla 24 track...hot setup, but still delay.
Anyone know what's up?
Thanks!
Go to settings, make sure U use DirectX or Asio drivers, and turn the buffer size down until you get from 70 to 20 ms latency, try a few and stick with the one with no crakling... Enjoy real time!

go get the asio drivers, if you don't have one
just install cubase sx (demo or retail)

and don't forget to setup the buffers in the asio-setup...
try 512 (~10ms latency with my SB Live Player) , if this is too much for your soundcard try 728 or 1024
good luck

or you may need to buy a better soundcard with low latency drivers. ASIO.
m-audio, rme, motu, etc make a lot of pro quality stuff that will give "low latency" response from midi to audio
How about cakewalk? I experience the same delay too from keyboard to recording.
